With the aim to raise the awareness for the necessary scientific investigation, conservation and recuperation of the Andean lakes Mundo Azul organized in July 2000 the first scientific and multidisciplinary diving expedition to the Laguna de los Condores.

The investigation was organized in cooperation between Mundo Azul and the National Institute for Culture (INC)

The objectives of the expedition were:
. Collect biological samples and study the biodiversity in various lakes in the area
. Collect abiotic data like temperature, and depths
. Photographic documentation of sub aquatic habitats
. Evaluation of the archeological potential
. Create awareness for the importance of the conservation of aquatic habitats and species and the archeological remains.

The determination of the collected species will be undertaken by fisheries department of the Museum of Natural History “Javier Prado”of the National University San Marcos in Lima.

The expedition was realized in cooperation with the German Society for the Development of the Underwater Archeology (DEGUWA)
