Coastal
protected areas of Peru
While
having more than 3.000 kilometers of coastline
Peru only counts with four protected areas along
its coast:
1.)
The
National Reserve of Paracas
Located
between 13°
47' and 14° 17' southern latitude and 76° 30'
and 76° 00' eastern longitude.
Covering
an area of 217,594 hectares including marine
and terrestrial parts as well as islands.
Declared
to be a national Reserve by law number D.S.1281
-75-AG in 1975.

2.) The
National Reserve of Lachay (Lima)
Located
105 kilometers north of the capital Lima in
the province of Chancay at 11° 20' southern
latitude and 77° 23' eastern longitude.
Covers
an area of 5,070 hectares of Loma-Vegetation.
Declared
to be a National Reserve by law number 310-77-AG
in 1977.

3.)
The
National Mangrove-Sanctuary of Tumbes
Located
between 03°24' and 03°34' southern latitude
and 80° 13' eastern longitude.
Covers
an area of 6,000 hectares.
Declared
to be a National Sanctuary by supreme decree N°
018-88-AG in 1988.

4.)
The
National Sanctuary of the Lagoons of Mejia
Located
in the department of Arequipa at approximately
17°10' southern latitude.
Covers
an area of 69 hectares.
Declared
to be a National Sanctuary by supreme decree
No O15-84-AG in 1984. Considered being an important
resting-place for migratory birds by the Program
for the Conservation and Sustainable Development
of Wetlands.
