It has a little rough territory in the Coast and high plateaus or andean punas. The rest of its space occupied by the Andes is very rough too. In the west, slopes with strong declivity have been shaped in narrow canyons with abrupt and deserted sides. Also in the Pacific slopes, the Santa river has shaped a wide valley in the punas which is getting narrow each time until cut the Black Cordillera where the majestic Del Pato Canyon has been formed. Most of the Ancash population is concentrated in the Callejón de Huaylas formed by the White Cordillera and Black Cordillera. Two areas are the most outstanding surfaces in the topography of Ancash: the Black Cordillera located at the west of the Callejón de Huaylas with tops without glaciars and the White Cordillera located at the east and which have several tops covered with snow and ice like the Huascaran Snowfall (6768 m), the highest snowfall in Peru, and the Alpamayo. Likewise, there are a lot of lagoons originated from glaciars like Llanganuco and Paron.
