 Geography:

The department of Ayacucho is crossed by two
cordilleras which divide it into three geographical units: one formed by high plateaus in
the south, abrupt mountainous area in the middle; and jungle-tropical in the northeast
part. In Ayacucho, the visitors run over a landscape full of tops of the Western and
Eastern Cordillera to descend to the warm lands of the right margin of the Apurimac river
in the northeast part, which represents the limit for the Department of Ayacucho and
Cusco.
In the middle of this andean nature, most of which is
almost desertic territory, grow milliards of cactus. From time to time, picturesque
valleys or desolated pampas like Cangallos, Quinua and Chupas can be appreciated. At the
south, we can find the Parinacochas Lagoon, a quechua word that means "Laguna de las
Parihuanas", in reference to these flamingos which show white and red fur and live in
the shores of this department flying toward the Coast.
