The oldest tools of Peru (20,000 years) were found in the Piquimachay and Pacaicassa caves. The center of the Wari Culture was located in Ayacucho. Vilcashuaman located at 120 km to the south of Ayacucho was an Inca administrative center, between its constructions are the Temple of the Sun and Moon. Intiwatana located near Vilcashuaman is an archaeological complex that has a palace and a fortified tower, the Inca baths (with a 17-angle stone) and an artificial lagoon in front of the archaeological center. The National Reserve of Pampa Galeras is destinated to protect the vicuña, the smallest and most gracile of the South American Camelidaes. This department also has natural forests where there are a lot of Puyas de Raimondi located within the National Sanctuary of Titancayocc.
