Main Resources: The most outstanding characteristic of Huánuco is that it is an important fruit producer. Other products from this department are: coffee, tea, sugar cane and petroleum.

Population: It has a population of 709,000 inhabitants. Huánuco, its capital, has 74,676 inhabitants.

Number of Provinces and Districts: 9 provinces and 75 districts.

Date of Foundation: As department, January 24th, 1869.

Typical Foods: Buried Duck, locro de gallina, picante de queso (sauce of cheese), tacacho and chifles.

Fauna: Cocks of the rocks, guacharo, parrots, swallows, hummingbirds and watchbird. Fishes like truchas, bagres and paiches. Batrachia and reptiles (Boas and Alligators). Mammals such as sachavaca, red deer and sajino.

Flora: Arboreal species, palm trees and shrubs. Orchids.
